How to Split Up Prospecting Amongst Agents?

So my agency uses a source called datalister, and we each 'tag' a prospect with an assigned number, and that's how you get 'dibs' on that prospect. It splits up by SIC code, county, city, etc.. well the issue is that selfish people got on there and tagged everything they could find, day 1. So now, over a year later, we have no way of knowing if you're still calling on these prospects. It seems unreasonable to think that someone has dibs on a prospect that they haven't called on in 7 or 8 months, just because they were first to tag it on the website, a year and a half ago.

So what we're trying to do now is come up with a way for our agents to communicate better on what accounts we're still calling on, and how long before you lose your 'dibs' if you don't call them.

Anyone have any ideas or success stories? Thanks!

MassMutual has (had?) a program called "Blue Chip Prospecting". It is a list generator that also eliminates those who are already CLIENTS of another agent/advisor, as well as screening for DNC.

Unless the agent is PAYING for the lead, there should be no exclusivity on any prospect until they are a client.

Whoever brings in the signed app... gets the client.

I think that anyone that has any meaningful notes (especially a fact-finding form) on any particular prospect can call "dibs" for the short-term. After a set date (maybe 30-45 days out)... all "dibs" are expired and it's whoever brings in the signed app.

Where is the CRM in all this? They could be putting their contact attempts in there.

So while you are all worried about who at your company has five on a prospect other agents at other companies are out there writing up these prospects.
