I just lost my first client...

CSO isn't accepting new applications in January. As a courtesy, I wrote an e-mail to my customers explaining the situation and if they wanted to explore other companies, to give me a call.

Most of my clients called right away, and I underwrote two policies with another carrier. One was stuck due to health and also in another state. One called me today asking how to cancel because she already signed with BCBSMI in January.

I found out how much she was going to pay, and found her a much better deal.

Everyone says the same thing, "I don't want to deal with them closing the risk pool." That's fair, I can get them with a company that traditionally hasn't done that... but past performance doesn't indicate future actions.

I ultimately told her how to cancel her plan, but considering the guy that sold her the policy was the one that told her it was time to probably make a change, I could promise her that BCBSMI wouldn't say a word to her. I wished her luck and ended the call respectfully.

It's just interesting that my first loss was due to me being upfront with my client.
