Is Equitable National backing out of the Medigap business nationally?

Contracting Discontinuing

Equitable National Life Insurance Company

To our valued business partners,

As a reputable insurer, we monitor the insurance landscape to ensure we offer insurance products that meet customer needs and company priorities. As a result of this ongoing process, we have made the decision to discontinue Medicare Supplement sales for Equitable National effective June 30, 2020.

Our Medicare Supplement customers and agents are important to us and to our success. As a result and similar to the announcement you may have received in recent weeks from Equitable Life & Casualty, we are also transitioning some of the administrative functions to Actuarial Management Resources (AMR), an independent third party administrator, on August 1, 2020.

It is very important to note that this action affects new sales only;
no in-force policies will be cancelled or non-renewed due to the discontinuation of these plans. Current policyowners may keep their policies for as long as they wish by continuing their payment of premiums.

We will keep you updated over the next few months as we work through these transitions. In the meantime, please keep these important dates in mind:

May 29, 2020 – Last day we will contract and appoint new agents with Equitable National.
June 30, 2020 – Last day Medicare Supplement applications can be signed by you and your clients.
July 15, 2020 – Last day we will accept Medicare Supplement applications for review and underwriting that were signed on or before June 30, 2020.
August 1, 2020 – First day Actuarial Management Resources will begin providing administrative services for the Equitable National Medicare Supplement block. Please watch for future communication from us with important updates.

We value our partnership with you and are appreciative of the business you have placed with Equitable National since 2017. We look forward to continuing to provide the best service possible to you and your clients with Medicare Supplement policies through Equitable National.

Sincerely,

Who in their right mind would contract with a carrier that has ANNOUNCED they are withdrawing from the market AND you can only write apps for the next 30 days?

I'm sure...somewhere, somehow....there will be an agent that just has to have them to write that one policy!

There were agents contracting with AFLAC around the time they decided to exit the Medicare market. I never contracted with them, but ran into folks who bought from AFLAC and were still in their IEP but the writing agent never contacted them about moving to another carrier.
