Short term Medical Cancellation Question

I have a 6 month UHC short term medical policy which runs through 12/23/20 and pay a monthly premium in advance. I turn 65 in December so I'm eligible for Medicare starting 12/1. I called UHC to find out how to change my termination date from 12/23 to 11/30. They said I could only change the termination date to 11/23 (and go uncovered for a week) or pay through 12/23 and double pay with medicare for most of December. Does this sound accurate?
