Just another reason why an individual life insurance contract is recommended over group term life.

Widow denied benefits due to the company changing group life carriers while the husband was off work, he never returned to work and the new company (Aetna) would not pay the claim.

ERISA actually protects the employer and eliminates the widow from filing suit against them. So the very law enacted to protect employees, is working against one former employee and his family, in a big way.

This story must be committed to memory and any time your prospect mentions the word group life insurance, as an alternative to what you are offering, this situation must be mentioned.

As much as this situation sucks, it is not the norm, but the exception. With that being said, your right about not relying on group life in liu of other individual insurance products.
