The people bitching the most seem to do the least amount of business.
If I did 50 apps a year with Aetna I couldn't care less about the small agent. My biggest complaint is when I have the opportunity to increase my income but the lousy FMO won't release me.
If I've learned one solitary thing in almost 17 years in this business, it's that this is a universal truth.
"Laid back. With my mind on my money, and my money on my mind. "
Paul, If you haven't heard it yet, you should listen to a version of "Gin and Juice" performed by a Bluegrass band out of TX - The Gourds. I think you will get a kick out of it - it's great.

Awesome, thanks. Found it on projectplaylist.com. They also have a primo version of "Gangsta Lean".
Yeah, but will enough agents be pissed off enough to make this go away? If not, you will see it nationwide a year from now... with all carriers. You think they LIKE us? I want what you're smokin'!
Rick once talked about a "kick a$$" association JUST for agents to speak out about this crap and the FMO garbage thrown at us. I wish he would put it together. I'd be the first person to join (and probably the first to be thrown out)

A company the size of Aetna's only gonna pay attention to their largest brokers. What you or I say doesn't register on their radar. They need the president of Benefit Mall to call 'em and say "the commission changes or we drop you as a carrier." Then they'd listen.
Blue Cross compensation in MD just went up for '08. So although they abhor agents they realize that they need us.
I've emailed Carefirst before regarding the extremely low commissions as compared to their competitors. The response I got was they're a non-profit company.
Other than that Al "the people" get screwed like this all the time. I believe the saying is "unless you're the lead dog the view never changes."

That's blues... a whole different genre than rock and roll.
Al
Not really, I do believe the member of Fleetwood Mac would agree. What was the first rock and roll song? Many say that belongs to a song done originally by Hank Williams, can you name the song? You likely know it better by the version of George Thorogood and the Destroyers.
Ps you have clever poeple and you have geniuses, Stevie Ray Vaghn and Hank Williams were geniuses. Fleetwood Mac and George Thorogood are clever, they'll never rank up. Yet I never was all the found of Fleetwood Mac and don't really consider the true Rock and Roll, more Pop then anything else.
Well, maybe this is my 15 minutes of fame! Here is the link to the story I brought to the Business Journal. They turned it into an article and I got a small mention (which I really wasn't looking for.) I own a book publishing company (for 17 years now) and I know how to "use" the media. I don't think there isn't anything I couldn't 'spin' into story as I know the "mindset" of reporters and editors (and getting ink these days is not that hard! They will print anything!)
Tell me how this kind of publicity helps Aetna attract agents to sell their products? Even agents who have reached the required production level may not want to sell for a company that screws other agents. We may all be competitors but we're also a community.
I wish NAHU would stand up for us... but that's not going to happen. One day maybe we will get an association that is 100% FOR the agents and which does not feel it has to walk a thin line between both agents and carriers. Of course when that day comes we'll all be selling used cars down on auto row!
