More recent events involved bailing out some female reporter in Iran...where it's illegal for females to take photos - then we have the reporters who felt like going into North Korea.
Hey, you want to take that kind of risk fine, but it's on you. To the hikers who are now detailed in Iran? Maybe a few months locked up will have them second-guessing where to hike next time.

Ewww, mahhhn, like Iran would be like, like, a really totally far out place to like go hiking. Keep in mind that for the Berkely crowd, the dangers of Iran and North Korea exist only in the minds of George Bush and Dick Cheney.

Seems to me that UC Berkeley and the surrounding area were very anti-recruiting of the military forces. Therefore, it seems fairly safe to assume that if 3 Berkeley grads decided to go it alone off to Iran, they couldn't possibly expect OUR military to help them out.

These are probably the same people who thought Hitler was misunderstood and just needed more hugs. I LOVE the dose of reality they're getting.
The pathetic thing is that these loons already believe the United States has victimized Iran, so they probably are eager to condemn the United States in order to be released. I dont imagine it would take much torture to get the code pink crowd to condemn the United States for war crimes.
On the other hand, maybe Bill Clinton can swing by on the way back and do some back room deals as he did in No. Korea to get them released. I guess this part of the "talking with our enemies" policy. Bill goes over and meets with the "Dear Leader." Expect to see more food shipments from the United States to them, that is after the United Nations has put its name on it.
You remember when the Iranians captured all those British sailors and messed with them for a while? Then they released them all and sent them home with little gifts and with big smiles on their face and turned it all into a big happy day to display the magnanimous spirit of Iran. Makes you want to puke, The Brits should have bombed the crapola out of them after the sailors were released and make them regret the day they even contemplated frigging with them.
Expect a big happy day show of generosity by the Iranians. What the hey, let em enjoy it. They only have a few weeks or months left before Israel gives them a little spanking.
If Iran was savvy they'd play up situations like this - treat the hikers well. Detained - yes, but make sure they're taken care of and well fed. Then hit 'em with "we've been trying to arrange your release but no one from the U.S. will get back to us."
