It's no secret that I do a lot of cold calling for med supps (and sometimes I get a lead on a product that we won't mention here). I call a large territory and sometimes it is not convenient for me to drive long distances to an appointment.
If I get a customer who lives far from me, would you be interested in paying for the lead, let's say $100.00 for a single or $150.00 per couple(money upfront). Here's the information you would know.
1. Ages
2.Medical Conditions
3.Prescriptions taken
4.price they are currently paying for their med supps
5.they have agreed to meet with me to talk about switching (90-95% chance this will happen on first appointment)
6. Name of current company.
I know the price is steep but you have to figure you will also be getting the renewals. NO ROOKIES THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE
I'd be interested in a split on any life insurance cases you may come across in Northern VA that you aren't able to sell for whatever reason.....we don't do med-supps though, sorry.

VaDwayne,
Would you be willing to pay the same price for the same info on people within your local area?
I think his point is that it's not that appealing of a deal. I think the split would be the best bet and you would just have to trust the person. You should be able to find out pretty quickly if you give him 10 people and he doesn't close and split 9 of them (according to your numbers) that he's jipping you.
THE DEAL IS THE DEAL!!!! If you don't want to participate, don't. This thread is directed at VIRGINIA agents ONLY. If you don't want to pay for a lead where all you will have to do is fill out the paperwork, don't do it. This is a chance for someone to pay $100.00 for a potentially $1500.00 commission over the next 6 years. I also understand that this will probably not work for broke agents.
OK, take a deep breath. We're just trying to help find alternatives that you might be willing to do since you got no takers so far. No offense intended.
I don't think any experienced agent would pay you $100 for a lead. You have been in this business... what? Maybe a year now. I don't know if you would know a good lead from a bad lead, and I can't imagine that any agent would be dumb enough to send you a C-note for it.
If you want to give away leads, what you need to do is cultivate some relationships with agents in areas outside your area whom you feel you can trust. You can never be sure, but my bet is that your instincts are better than you think they are. Find three or four agents who are interested in doing a split with you and interview them on the phone. Ask about their background, who they know who will vouch for them... etc. Even in large cities in CA, the agent community is not that large such that you can't find out about someone fairly easily via a few calls. I'm sure it is no different in a small state like VA.
I guess what I really don't understand is exactly why you can't do what it is you do over the phone. I write health, life, and supps every day on the phone... with clients hundreds of miles away from me...whom I never see. What is the big deal? Are you dealing with 7-figure clients who MUST see you? If so, take the drive! If not 7 figures, just learn how to sell over the phone. It's not exactly rocket science. If a liberal like me can do it, don't you think a brilliant neo-con can do it as well?
I AGREE! This forum has really deteriorated the last few months. Instead of healthy exchange of ideas and knowledge there are a lot of childish antics here.
That actually is true, but look at the posts above. This IS a healthy exchange of ideas. No one's telling him what to do, just giving suggestions. People that have been in the business a long time are giving advice to this guy to help him make some money when he isn't able to travel.
I agree. There is always going to be some banter on a Forum, but the good far outweighs the bad here.
In fact...if you check the July issue of "Online Forum Chatter," this Forum received a 94.2 rating...meaning that 94.2% of the content was relevant. That puts it in the upper 5%. Not bad.

I appreciate advice when needed or asked for. Heck, if wasn't for this forum I wouldn't be anywhere close to being as successful in this business as I am. I would have never met Frank or Todd if not for this forum. But this post did not ask for advice or opinions, it was intended for VIRGINA agents.
Did I ask "How much should I pay"?
Did I ask "Can I have advice on this"?
Did I address my question to anyone outside of Virginia?
Those agents that responded should have never responded if weren't interested.
These post get so far off of the original topic by the time the 3rd or 4th person responds, you lose track of the original question or post.
Seeing your point of view on what a forum is for, I can see why you feel that way. I on the other hand have not only learned from specific responses to other's questions, but also from the "off topic remarks". A year down the road from now, someone might have the same idea and look at this thread. The differing ideas might help them out even if it didn't help you out.
I really do realize that you asked a specific question, but I dont' feel like any of the responses were out of line and I honestly felt attacked for offering an opinion (while although unasked for) I thought MIGHT be helpful. If I had been you, I would have said, "thanks for the advice, but I'm only interested in doing a flat fee for service instead of a split. Anyone up for the flat fee scenario?" Oh well...different strokes for different folks.
