Here's my situation. I am speaking with a lady about her health insurance. Her husband had group coverage but he died about 2 months ago and it appears that his company told her that she could stay on the health plan under Cobra, I understand that portion. Her paperwork shows two options, one is ARRA $ at 189.00 per month or Non-ARRA at 459.00 per month. She has paid neither and her 63 days is coming up quickly.

I told her to pay one premium to make sure she stays within the 63 days, while we work on different health coverage. I wrote an app with Anthem and need to send it to underwriting; she does have a couple of health issues.

Here's the questions: Who qualifies for ARRA? How long does it last? I tried researching on the net but I still don't have a good grasp on it.

It's on this forum some place. It was discussed early this year.

Last thing I saw on ARRA, death of the employee is not considered "involuntary termination" so the surviving spouse/dependents are NOT entitled to the subsidy of 65% on ARRA.

That is specifically addressed in the IRS version.

I could have sworn it was a guy named Dave Fluker that gave us that tidbit that death is not considered involuntary separation . . .

Whatever happened to him?

Here is a link that give some insight into COBRA.

If an employer WANTS to subsidize the cost of COBRA there is nothing stopping them. Of course if they did there is no reason to believe they could claim a credit on payroll taxes for the subsidy.

Under normal circumstances it lasts for 9 months.
The feds pay 65% for that long. Then folks pay full load for the remaining 9 months that the cobra is available.
More BO B.S.
Stuuuuupid. That money should have went to help out gimps not people healthy enough to dodge cobra by getting their own plan right away. Another Barry move towards the socialist cesspool he dreams of.
"Wasn't it great the way the govt. paid for most of our cobra for the first 9 months? I wish they paid for our coverage all the time ..."

It actually goes a step further. ARRA also requires state mini-COBRA plans (groups under 20) to pay the subsidy for 9 months at 65%...paid by the carriers!
