It means the captive manager and or the independent marketing manager could not realease you to be appointed for 6 months or a year- when you leave.

Example: you go to work for XYZ captive. You quit. You try to work for broker that writes XYZ, along with others. You cannot sign the contract for 6 months. They won't release your appointment. Because: you may owe money back that you were advanced. You may even owe it -months from now.

So, an upfront release is basically saying you will leave, eventually, and you will take your business elsewhere. Some managers do not appreciate that.

Ohhhh. So when you leave that agency...you can still get residuals if you move your file to another agency?

An upfront release is nothing more than a written promise that if you ask to be released at a later date it will be given. Period.
