I have a free google site tied to a domain name ($9.95 for the name per year).

Granted, I am not selling off my site, it is just supposed to give some info and get them to call me.

I use Hostgator.com with a midsize plan for $10 a month and you can go as low as $5

I have 117 domains hosted. Support is excellent both online and via the phone even for issues that are non-hosting related (like wordpress upgrades)

Social Media Marketing is one of my specialties and you can get lots of free sites out there (wordpress.com, hubpages, blogger.com, etc) One tip...get your own domain name!

I use Blue Voda (Vodahost) and I pay $100 per year for unlimited domain names hosted and unlimited email accounts. I currently have about 30 sites hosted with them. They have been very stable with only minor issues for the past 3 years. THey also have a drop and drag website builder that you get for free. It has worked very well for me.

I get my domain names via GoDaddy.

For 1-1-09 I am switching to a Google server. I think its going to cost $160 a year.

The google server will never go down and the chances of being white listed/blocked are very low.

True. My biggest problem is that in many ways Google acts like they own the internet or invented it. Some of their algorithms are just a bit to spooky for me. As someone that has been through an identity theft, I don't want any one entity having to much control or access to my entire business system. Especially a company like Google or MS that seem to occasionally have a "God" complex.

About $100 per year at hostpc.com. Great service, unlimited databases and domains. Check them out.

Another good provider is hostupon.com. They have UNLIMITED space for around $100 per year.

I also use Google Apps for your domain (Premium) for $50 per year per user.

I pay about $2,000 a year... but I have my own dedicated (non-shared) server with pair.com.

Why?

I also am a (senior) owner/partner in the the Jaya123 web service which necessitates a secure system. Jaya123 has been "up" for about six years now and is a virtual cash cow for us. While I spend about 80% of my time in the insurance biz (which is far more fun than Jaya) I also own a publishing company called Adams-Blake Publishing which also makes a few bucks each year... but not as much as it did before the Internet. It too shares the server, along with the agency web site and... the SugarCRM system we use to keep track of clients, etc.

At my "advanced" age, the life and health insurance agency is much more enjoyable and is a business I can do until I die (or close to it!) Being over 60, I'm probably pretty close to assuming room temp! But before that happens it looks as if I'm going to go to law school next year so as to incorporate law into the insurance biz. (I started law school 35 years ago... never finished. Gotta start all over again.)

If you're planning on maintaining the site yourself, I would recommend using Yahoo Web Hosting or Go Daddy because they both have a very user friendly interface. If you're more knowledgable or need to host multiple sites than Host Monster's a good option. I use all of them regularly.

About $9 - $10 a month with godaddy.com. I find them to be VERY user friendly and have always had great customer service.
