I'm looking into going under a local independant agent to sell auto insurance. What is a fair percentage of commision to expect ? Do auto insurance companies pay advances ?

I'm in Pa and typically companies pay 15% new, 12% renewal. Sometimes 12/10% if there are younger drivers in the house.

Some companies pay advanced comm based on written premium. Most pay as the policy is paid (earned).
That represents what the agency makes. As an agent I think a typical split would be 65% new and 35% renewal.

I hope this help you. Good luck.

Are you talking about Commission Only or is there a salary involved. Im in Kentucky and I have done 50% new and 35% on renewal. I just recently moved agencies and i was able to negotiate a salary plus 45% on new and renewal.

I'm a captured agent our auto pays 10% up front &10% renewal. Farmers INS. I'm paying my agent producer 80% / 20%

Captive side: 4-7% on orphaned policies, 7-10% NB and renewal and almost no chance at bonus (need life sales)

Independent side:10-15% and a great profit bonus and growth bonus.
