Auto Insurance "By the Mile"

Aren't there some statistics that say how most accidents happen near the home? I would think that not all "miles" are created equal, and residential miles should be more expensive to insure than highway miles?

Yes, but this is a skewed statistic. If you spend 80% of the time driving near your home, it stands to reason 80% of the accidents will happen there.

Also, divided highways probably have fewer accidents per mile, but I'm willing to wager that the accidents that happen are more severe, mitigating the fewer. Residential street accidents tend to be minor fender benders. Freeway accidents tend to be ones that make cars into accordions.
