Ah, I love terminology issues. You are correct, CA is a surety bond, meeting the financial responsibility requirement, hence the FR (surety) bond name.

Or, if you prefer, you can just deposit $35,000 with the DMV and you are good to go. Not sure how this makes sense though.

Yep. exactly the same as in Ohio, just different terminology.

In Ohio, the deposit amount used to be 32.5K before they increased the state min. from 12.5/25/7.5 to 25/50/25. now it's 75K.

and you're right it doesn't make sense, but I guess people do it.
