Just file the claim. The sooner you do it, the better you are.
There are 2 things that happen in these situations, always:
- The person who hit you has NO IDEA what it costs to fix a car. Then they are shocked when they see the estimate
- The person who got hit doesn't work to minimize the costs. The body shop is going to make sure everything gets taken care of, which adds to the bill. They will usually add in a few things that an insurance company may not pay for. Not gouging, just not minimizing.
Just file the claim and get it taken care of. He had his chance.
