Hello,

I have a motorcycle that is titled/registered to an LLC in Montana. It is garaged in California and operated for personal/pleasure use only throughout the western states.

How should I approach insurance? Do I need a commercial policy in the name of the LLC? Will a personal auto policy cover me even though I do not own the vehicle?

Thanks for your time!

You have to have a policy based on where it is garaged. California requires it to be registered in California if it is kept here, though I believe most states have this rule.

Yes, the owner of the bike has to get the insurance, which in this case is an LLC which means probably a commercial policy. Not every carrier will take this since it is owned by a company and operated by someone else (i.e., I assume you). You may have to shop a bit to find the right policy for this.
