Howdy colleagues:

We just got appointed by Progressive after a long territorial freeze by them in our state (California). They're starting us off with specialty lines (RV, motocycle, boat and commercial auto).

Anyone experienced quoting with Progressive specialty/commercial in California?
  • Are they competitive?
  • Other than name recognition, what other selling points can we relate to our potential clients?
  • Do they have a sweet spot in terms of demographic/products/coverage?
  • What geographic area/product should we target through our marketing efforts?
  • Any other advice for an agency trying to make a new carrier happy?

Thank you in advance!

It will probably vary by state. Here, they are very competitive for the commercial risks some carriers don't want - towing, larger commercial vehicles, etc.
I've mainly written nonstandard with them, after a year they are still hard for me to figure out. I literally never know if they will be comparable to other carriers, blow the competition away, or if their prices will be through the roof.
