Points on License NYC - Question!!

So, I am from New York City.

I have several trials pending for traffic violations. My name is not registered on my car, or any insurance policy. Assuming I end up with 18 points on my license, will these points stay on my license if I finally get my own insurance policy in 5 years? Meaning, would they affect the cost starting from the time I get my own insurance? Need some knowledge on the topic!

Please help. :)

I'm not in NY, but I think I can safely say that points on your license WILL affect your insurance rates indefinitely......and likely already would be affecting the insurance rates of the cars you drive.

The insurance implications here are huge.

You wouldn't be getting the keys to my car anytime soon.

I would start with the DMV website for New York.

Most states will suspend your license if you have too many points in total or obtain too many in a short period of time. My guess is 18 within a year will trigger this, however I am not in NY so I'm not sure. If so, you will probably end up needing an SR-22 which will definitely affect your rates until that goes away.

Most companies only look back so far at accidents, tickets, etc. 3 to 5 year is typical.
