Starting Out with Property/Casualty in Georgia

My wife is thinking about getting her property/casualty license here in GA. She would be starting out part time. I think it would be best to work with a Broker so that you can quote a number of companies versus going with an outfit like State Farm. Yes, they have name recognition, but I think price is King. Can some of you agents shed some light on how you got started and what you think is best for a new agent starting out. What is the pay like in regard to auto and property insurance. I hear the commissions are small. Does anyone know who the competitive companies are in Georgia? Thanks.
