best advice on starting independent agency???

Hi all, what is your best advice on "starting" a independent agency? where do you suggest I begin? I live in a town of about 25000 and I have no idea where to begin. Building? who do I contact first as far as writing insurance with what companies? Do I need to be in a parnership with a higher up??

Help!! what is the first thing you would do?

Please help any anwers would be appreciated

Have you worked in an insurance office before? I would recommend working for an independent P&C agent for a couple years to learn the business and develop relationships. Also, see if there's a way to keep your clients if you decide to move on later.

What side of the industry are you going into? How much walk up do you expect? Are you completely new to the business or have a few years in? Advice will vary based on your market and experiences.
