Best insurance to sell?             Go to Top

I am currently considering becoming an Insurance Agent in the state of Ohio. I have come across many agent openings but am clueless about which type to pursue selling. I do not have a license so that narrows me down to places that train the individual in becoming an Agent. I have seen Allstate, Progressive, American Life, United American and a few other companies produce open results. Any suggestions of which insurance type and company produces many leads and preferably includes a base along with a rising number of customers switching to them?

It depends.. do you want to be a captive agent or independent agent? Since you don't have much training, it might be better to start as a captive agent (like Allstate) and then learn and get good training.

The best coverage, highest commissions, never increase rates, never challenge pre-existing, 2 year advance, etc.

I forget, what company does this?

ROFLMBO

Seriously, very few good FMO's for everything, so either start as captive or with a good GA who will teach you the ropes and provide support. If they will put it in writing that they will release you as soon as advances are cleared, you shouldn't have any worries. That's what I do. Occasionally there is a bad apple, but for the most part, straight talk is rewarded both ways.

Good luck.

Some suggestions about the presentation are as follows

1) Speech must be loud and clear. It shows your control and knowledge about the product.

2) Always keep the eye contact with your customer. It shows confidence and help in building the trust which is most important in sales.

3) It should not be lengthy conversation. It should not be more than 10 minutes.

4) It must be dramatic and touch some emotional point of the customer.

Emotional pitching is most popular in the industry and it is said that a good actor will always be a successful salesman.

The best insurance to sell is Ocean Frieght Insurance. Those huge tankers/Cargo ships that pay a million dollars plus to pass through the Panama Canal. There is a fortune in premium! It's a tiny market and really tough to get into though... A good opportunity is to start with a local insurance brokerage. They will have many markets that you will be able to sell to. But chooose one and get profficient at it. Then start something else. For example on the P&C side, start with restaurants, then when you are good with those, go to auto repair shops. Each of these Im sure have an abundant supply of loacations in your city. Then, you can link up work comp, disability, health/dental, home and auto, life, etc. By going through a brokerage, you will have a better chance to compete because they typically have 10-50 insurance carriers to write through. As a captive agent, you get one choice, and one premium option. Not too much chance to compete.

You can tell it's cut and paste spam when they have a different font and they are giving text book information that has nothing to do with the question.
