Looking back with 20/20 hindsight, did the Bush's ruin the Regan era recovery from the Carter malaise? Are we, in the USA, undergoing a gradual deterioration brought about by the "executive privilege" mentality of the Bush's? I remember when Regan was in office, there was a feeling that he gave a damn. I'll admit my distaste for Clinton, but he did reach out to the common man. Since then, our politicians have lapsed into a coma of sorts, totally removed from the people. Now, Obama promised to return us to that time when the people counted, but I fear he has long separated himself from those claims. What's happened?

Bush allowed the Federal government to grow itself even larger than it already was, the waste is infuriating, and for that I say he failed as a Republican, which he claimed to be. Whether or not he failed as a conservative, I'm not sure. He didn't seem to market himself as such.
Did you see this story about the National Science Foundation today? It's this kind of stuff that is disgusting. Do you think that the employees will be prosecuted for fraud against the taxpayer? Oh, no. One violater "retired". What good did that do? Did he give up his pension or is he still sucking off the public tit?
Obviously, this fraud and waste didn't just start 1/20/2009, but for some bizarre reason, Obama's team doesn't seem too interested, either. What a waste of the ability to change.

"Another employee in a different case was caught with hundreds of pictures, videos and even PowerPoint slide shows containing pornography. Asked by an investigator whether he had completed any government work on a day when a significant amount of pornography was downloaded, the employee responded, "Um, I can't remember," according to records. "
Gotta love it.

Good question, stormtracker. It depends on which promise you're talking about.
He seems to be taking the issues one at a time in a priority order -- but there's so much used food inherited from the neo-cons that it takes a computer to keep track. That makes him look unfocused to a lot of people. He has so many Bushie humpty dumpties to put back together again in progressive fashion that he's spread too thin right now.
Some stuff he can't do anything about. The Iraq genie can't go back in the bottle. It's too late. All he can do is get us out of there -- but for me it's taking far too long.
Right now, my biggest hope is that he'll use the lessons of history in making a wise choice on Afghan stragegy. The last person to "win" there was a Macedonian named Alexander, and his "win" was only partial and quite fleeting.
My biggest problem with Obama is that he seems too naive in dealing with the right wingers. That's probably his background as a social worker. I don't think he's still completely adjusted to fact that some segments of the population and political spectrum are so self-centered that they really will put their own and corporate greed over the interests of their own country. That naivete' I think comes through over his handling of the healthcare "debate". He's still trying to play "fair", when the competition plays by no rules or scruples whatsoever.
Right now, I'm begiinning to believe he should replace Axelrod with Al3 as chief advisor.
Oh I can just see Al in that role. Do you think he would still have time for us?
I'd round up all the neo-cons on this board and ship them off to Club Gitmo and make them listen to recorded speeches by George Bush 24/7 until they cracked!

Prepare thyself for surprises as we go forward. Obama has made a career out of countering right wingers (or actually anyone who is to the right of Rev. Wright) but you are correct- he is too naive. However he is too naive in dealing with the left wingers.
He thought that dem control of the House and Senate would make the world his oyster and that his popularity in the polls could only go up. How is that going? And now he has rapidly mounting opposition from the left on Afghanistan, failure to withdraw in Iraq, the complete watering down of health care reform, and the give-away corporate welfare programs that squandered a trillion or two that could have been used on social programs and healthcare and failure to advance gay marriage/rights.
This was the same surprise that Hillary ran into. Remember back when she was slated to be coronated? Then it turned out that the left found someone further to the left and threw her under the bus and ran over her several times to make sure she was down. In the end, she stated that "Fox News was the only one that gave me fair coverage." Was she being naive about how to deal with the right? I dont think so. She got sucker-punched from the left. Just as Obama will. Perhaps you have seen that video clip of Michael Moore telling Obama that he has "abandoned us. " More to come.
