I just got an email from the CA DOI saying they are splitting the current Life Agent into 2 classes (or sub-divisions): Life Only and Health/Accident.
See first link on:
What's New in the Licensing Services Division
My guess is that the DOI was under pressure from the industry saying they can't get enough agents because the learning curve was too high for both Life and Health. Thus, they broke the license into 2 components.
Just a guess. Don't quote me!
Does not look like it will effect those of us already licensed, however it looks to me that they just cut the requirement from 50 units over 2 years to 24 for someone (like us) who will hold both components? Is that right? Or am I mistaken?

PS: When I was in insurance school they taught that in CA it is not legal for a CA Life Agent to call themselves a "broker." That was reserved for P&C guys. No one I know follows that rule... and maybe it was rescinded.... or maybe I was zoning out that day in class and I made it up in my gin-soaked mind!
