Goldenrule didn't actively sell in CA, most of these policies are from people moving to CA after purchase in another state.

UnitedHealth said it had notified state regulators that it would leave the state's individual market at year-end and force about 8,000 customers to find new coverage. Last month, Aetna Inc., the nation's third-largest health insurer, made a similar move affecting about 50,000 existing policyholders.

The only IFP sales channel for UHC in CA has been through subsidiary PacifiCare. No loss here to CA IFP at all.

By the way...CA IFP was reportedly VERY frustrated after UHC pulled out.

I.F.P.? If you're referring to the Department of Insurance, that's because they know a lot of employees will really distraught when they're dumped off their UHC small group plan in 2014 and can't transition to a UHC/GR Individual policy.

These employees will have to find a new insurance company that also has their medical providers in-network. They will then have to register their new insurance credentials with their medical provider(s).

It would have been much easier and familiar territory to simply get an Individual United Health policy after going through the shock of losing health insurance at work.

IFP - Individual & Family Plans

UHC has never sold an IFP plan in CA under their brand name, They ran it all through PacifiCare, a crappy HMO they bought for six bucks and a starbucks gift card.

Again, nothing new here. Everyone has to change carriers coming off of UHC group coverage. It was never an option in CA. We don't have Humana either.
