No moral, just letting others know that if they are afraid of people from that State, as I am, it may not be all bad.

Hmmmm. "Normal" is considered to be an alternative lifestyle in San Fran so undoubtedly there are some, although they have to put up with a lot of discrimination.

It has been rather cold here in the early mornings lately.

I met a man from North Carolina the other morning while walking in the park He said he had just recently moved from South Carolina and was visiting California to see his daughter. It surprised me how normal he was in his manner of speaking and no strange opinions or peculiar behavior. He had on a white jump-suit and a white ski cap and was carrying a 3-foot wooden cross in one hand and a can of lighter fluid in the other. When I asked him what he was going to do he said he was going to make a small fire to warm him up. He said this was pretty normal where he came from. No moral, just letting others know that if they are afraid of people from North or South Carolina, as I am, it may not be all bad.

OK, time for another bubble buster. If you have ONE gene of the human species within your ancestry, then you have the propensity to have committed in the past, or in the future, ANY of the atrocities that man has, or ever will, conduct against fellow man. Al, your continued reference to, and suggestion of, the barbaric KKK is selective retaliation. Is it that this was the most heinous violation of human rights that you can ever think of, or the only one you choose to project over and over as a means to set things right? I understand your taking offense to references to Californian's stereotypes, and for that matter, any others. But, man-- you're firing back with napalm when BB's would do. Lighten up dude-- I think you'll find that you have more allies than you think.

On this board? In this venue? Are you kidding? I am one of maybe ten moderate/liberals and I'm easily the most outspoken in that I don't take the crap that the neo-cons here give the others.

The neo-cons hate me... and I wear that as a badge of honor.

Do I think that the neo-con, Obama-haters here are latent (and in some cases, blatant) racists? Yes I do.

They don't like that, but it does not change my thinking one bit.

I have the right to express my opinion about them just as they have expressed theirs about me.

What is the difference?

Few of them have the literary ability or the intellectual capacity to successfully challenge me... since most have no more than a junior college education.

Winter is a worthy adversary, as are one or two others, but on the whole, the rest of them are rural Southerners or provincial small-town conservatives who are still fighting the Civil War and who long for Alabama of 1958 (even though most of them were not alive during that period... but their moms and dads told them the stories of those good old days of lynchings, cross burnings, black-lists, quotas, and church bombings and they are sad that they missed all of that and hope against hope that maybe a Limbaugh or a Beck will lead them in a crusade against all of the social progress made by those who left the past behind for a new and better society.)

I fully agree racist played a big role in electing the first half white President.

Do you think more racist voted against Obama or for him?

I believe that the vast majority of voters didn't vote black or white but instead voted for the person... and Obama was perceived as more "likable" than McCain.

My guess is that most blacks voted race... so that's about 15% of the voting population, and the neo-cons voted race and that's probably about 10% of the voting population. The other 75% didn't (and don't) care about race.

That's what I think. Asked and answered.

So more racist voted for Obama and the election was comparable to a Miss America Pageant. Then we agree.

BTW. your "Few of them have the literary ability or the intellectual capacity to successfully challenge me... since most have no more than a junior college education." line cracked me up. Living in California you learn all the condescending tripe early. That "intellectual" and southern redneck stuff is classic.

So, what do you think about the condition of our fair state?

I tend to believe that both ends of the right and left are the problem. All about the party and ideology.

Not me. I don't have that kind of pull with the board owner. I think Barney does since my guess is he had an entire thread pulled that he protested. Either that or the owner deleted it. It's gone. I know STI has some admin powers here.

The only one I ever tried to get bannished was Tom Pick who threatened me and a few others with death. He is probably still here under a different name but he has behaved himself.

As for Moonlight, it is no secret that I consider him human garbage... but he is very popular among the many thousands of neo-cons in this venue so I doubt he was banished. My guess is that he got busy with something else and will be back at a later time to pollute this electron-stream as he did in the recent past.

It is interesting to see how people change in this venue over the years. Greensky gave up nasty attacks for a biting wit and sarcasm, which no one here does better. Winter elevated his dialectic from the depths of homophobia to the elevated platform of resident political pundit. I wrote him privately and told him he should start a blog or write for the mainstream media.

With the notable exception of healthguy and ins.dave, the venue is starting to mature and is becoming a kinder and more gentle place to post.

However, I fear that as the health care thing comes to a head and if what I fear happens... that many thousands of agents here are thrown under the bus by the carriers and are out of work, that the mood will get very ugly very fast against anyone and everyone who dares support that change. There is a lot of latent neo-con, right-wing whack-job hostility here and I expect a tsunami of it before too long.

If it weren't for the US military, this whole world would be one big pile of nothing but chaos and anarchy.

You misunderstood the initial quote, I was just having a little fun with Al. He bashes the South but occasionally says there are a few good people here.

My background is socialist-conservative. It can be very confusing at times.

oops Sorry, I hear Military and the safety comes off. I get a little quick on the draw and Double Tap before I check the target. But that is an improvement. While my son was in the USMC I went straight Mozambique.

Al seems like a passionate, non-judgemental, superiorly educated guy. Sure likes that Neo-con word.

I am of a different stripe politicaly. I am hated by both sides. I am a moderate Republican. I tend to walk the fence. I step right or left depending on the issue. The whole Party thing tends to hit up against my "your not the boss of me" attitude. I would register Independent (was before Clinton) if we could vote in the primaries.

On the south? I saw Deliverance, I hear banjos and I pee a little.
