It is apparent from Obama's health reform flop around circus that his leadership style is basically to make speeches, observe what Congress does, and act as a cheerleader for what looks good to the public and to distance himself fromanything specific. Thus he has no health care bill on the floor(s) and makes the rounds to the Sunday news programs (excepting Fox of course) and takes his big toothy charm to David Letterman tonight to talk to the hip folks.

Problem is: We are at war. His style is not working for health care reform (which is basically his specialty- a talky-talky issue) so heaven help the troops in the field where real leadership and strategy are required.

Which is it? Are we going in deeper or are we going to leave the troops stretched thin while Obama works out his "hearts and minds" campaign to turn Afghanistan into the Switzerland of the region.

Don't know. Just know that his leadership style is a prescription for disaster here. By this time next year, health reform will be a collection of grab-bag bills and resolutions and wait-and-see triggers reflecting where Congress was able to agree or disagree. Good luck trying to run a war that way. Kennedy is remembered as a charismatic charmer because he died early on and thus escaped the legacy of his troop build-ups and cofused policies which eventually destroyed both Johnson and Nixon.

Look for more gray hairs on President Obama's head. You gotta have sympathy for anyone in the job but on the other hand he really has ducked a whole pant-load of responsibility and leadership in some areas and he campaigned on a platform of providing it.

[i]Obama and Bill Clinton had the opportunity to be world-changers as both were elected out of the malaise of stagnant republican leadership. What did they both do-- immediately pursue their dreamer agendas with the intent on leaving a "Kennedy" legacy instead of fulfilling their campaign promises and pledges. Clinton talked a big game and the public fell for it, and even re-elected the bloke. This time around, it looks like patience will not be so kind.

Was watching the state funeral at the local fern bar at lunch for the six Italian soldiers who died in Afghanistan recently.

I would guess support for the forgotten war is dropping in Europe faster than it is here. Sure is easier to talk about how to run a war than it is to run a war.

Sure is easier to talk about how a pesky leader of rag-tags should be captured or killed in short order than to actually accomplish it.

Talk is cheap.

I'm not a Bush fan. He was a moron. Nothing else to say about him. Except... he let the military be the military and he gave them support.

I served in the mid to late 80's. One of the most demoralizing times of our military post Vietnam. Graham and Rudman (sp?) basically sent the message that we were unimportant, didn't deserve the poverty level wages we were getting so they eliminated re-enlistment bonuses, re-enlistment duty station choices, along with other cuts to the services.

Then you have Clinton pandering to the homos and the whole "don't ask... don't tell" act. Dude was a disgrace to us all. Hillary shoulda kicked him in the slats.

This jackass (hey... he called West one so he must be one) will put another nail in the cofin of what used to be the fraternity of the brave, unselfish, and celebrated heroes. I love talking to my WW2 vet clients. They had it. They came home to it. If we have another "war" (what we're doing now is not a war in it's historical sense) we'll have one hell of a time coming up with a sizable defensive force due to "leaders" like him.

And if we let Obama and the current Congress get away with what they are trying to do, then we may have to rely on our military --just like any other banana republic.

We need to stay the hell out of the internal affairs of Honduras, by the way. Obama and Chavez seem to be on the same side of way too many issues. Obama apparently doesn't like the Honduran Constitution any more than he likes ours.
