It will be a tough one for McCain to turn around at this point unless we have a national security issue that is larger than the financial issue come up in the meantime.
The Palin debate will be fun. She will be surprisingly zippy in a few answers but will also get into lots of circular points and generalities saying we are going to just get this country going and back on track and that's why we need John McCain as President etc.. She can hold her own against Biden as far as getting votes even if she gets light, fluffy, and confused. Problem is, she was hired to not only lift herself up but McCain too. That probably is too tall an order. Also, she was hired because McCain thought that her energy expertise would fit right in to where the publics major concern was. However, in the world of politics, no one cares about energy this week.
Sigh.
------------------------------------ Border Security: There is no way around it. Even complete amnesty will not do anything to keep the growing insurrection in Mexico - in Mexico. Two totally different issues.
Seriously. Palin should bring this up the first time the moderator asks an off-base question (which is sure to happen).
We will see. Obviously her book sales will benefit from an Obama victory. My guess is she gives Biden a couple of tough sounding softball questions to try to appear less biased. But if she goes after Palin with Gotcha type questions, like where she basically words it so the the person is wrong, she will be made to look bad in the spin rooms.
Leher is a lib, and he played it pretty much down the middle last week. I think Ifill can do the same.

No doubt that Gwen Ifill as moderator, given the book, is a conflict of interest.
But honestly, it looks like asking Sarah Palin to spell CAT (after spotting her the "c" and the "a") would be considered a "gotcha" question.
I mean really, she couldn't name a newspaper or magazine that she read before being selected as the bottom of the ticket when asked by Katie Couric.
That's a "gotcha" question? Liberal media bias?
It's time to stop wishing she was something that she isn't.
Her depth is not very deep. She's starting to make Dan Quayle look like a Rhodes's Scholar!

You think Obama has depth? Intelligence yes. I think the reason people like him are the same reasons people like Palin. Totally superficial. Its all about personality. No one is voting for Obama on his record - or lack of actual voting in the Senate.
I'm not an Obama supporter, but I would guess he is able to tell you what newspapers and magazines he reads on a regular basis (as opposed to Mrs. Palin).
The Republican ticket has turned into a train wreck that is going down hill at break-neck speed.
I think it's time for America to hope the next guy they elect for the big house is alot smarter then the average joe. We've had 8 eight years of average and where has it put us?
I want smart. I want intelligent.
When did those actually become bad qualities? Do we tell our children.."for crying out loud what are you studying for!.. you'll never be president if you are intelligent!"
I have all the buddies I'd have a beer with. I want the next president to be alittle more "elite".

Couldn't or wouldn't name them? Say you read the Times, you are going to piss off the Daily News, Newsday and the Post. She gave a political answer.
And just so you know where I stand, I read Cigar Aficionado, Senior Market Adviser and I have an old issue Barely Legal hidden under my mattress
What interview was it several years ago where the politician was asked to name the leader of Afghanistan? I think maybe it was Bush.
Anyway. It is extremely easy to coach a debate candidate (or moderator) with information to spring on the other candidate like "Can you even name the president of Barfistan?" Of course, the person popping the question would have no earthly idea that Barfistan even existed before the coaching.
The only good response here (and Bush or whoever didn't do it) would be to say "No, I don't. And you didn't either until you looked up the answer to be able to ask the question."

They did that to Bush in 2000, I think it was a Boston Reporter, John Keller interviewing him during the NY primary. They asked him a for the names of several world leaders and I think he only got a couple of them right.
My favorite was when Spy Magazine did a piece where they asked Congressmen about Ethnic Cleansing in Freedonia. Several of them gave BS generic responses to the question. I think only one actually admitted they had never heard of of Freedonia. Freedonia was the country from the Marx Brothers Movie Duck Soup.
That also named the ten dumbest congressmen, and my old Congressman, Ed Markey was #2.

No, it was a political answer, not a good one, but a political answer. Every politician gets a stack of newspapers on they desk every morning.

I bet that Sarah will kick a little ass tomorrow all while smiling just for fun.
Do I think she will end out looking like an expert in anything of turning the ticket around? No. Too tall an order.
But no one should underestimate her power to connect with the people. I dont think she is qualified yet to be VP and I am not going to spend anytime defending that. I will defend her right to be treated respectfully and to get recognition for her vast accomplishments already which the libs will not afford her. It will be a shame to see her sent back to Alaska which will probably happen. Washington and the Republican party desparately needs some new talent and some exciting women who are not libs.
If McCain and Palin want to pull a rabbit out of the hat and win this election, I am all for it but they are pretty far behind the curve right now.

I dont care if apresident knows all the answers as long as he/she knows where to find them. I dont think it matters if you know the names of the other leaders around the world until it does and then you have people who can tell you who they are and why they are important
Dont fool yourselves Obama is no genius he is well coached and he speaks well but his depth of subject matter is very superficial and when asked to elaborate he gets his facts wrong.
I have not given up on McCain yet I am certain something will happen between now and elction day that will cause people to believe Obama is not a prudent choice

Basically, Obama cannot seem break 50% on national the polls despite all that is going on in the economy. This should be a peaking time for him with a double digit lead. If you look at the national polls, he is only at 51% in Rassmussen.

He had a string of good luck. Russia stepped out of line but national security is his speciality. Energy prices went through the roof but that added some basis for selecting Palin. Unfortunately he has hit some bad luck right before the election which is the financial mess and the economy is his weak because a bad economy works against the party in power.
There is still time for one more drama of some sort before the election. He would have to get lucky but it could happen.
