Perfume on Mailers

There was a great direct mail story in one of Dan Kennedy's books.

The client put together a piece meant for CEOs at trucking companies.

The piece was stuffed into an 9x12 manilla envelope, with the address and return address handwritten.

The client put a squirt of lady's perfume into each envelope, enough for the handler to get a whiff without opening it.

The concept was to pass the gatekeeper, as she would think, "Uh oh, I better just give this to the boss, as this is probably none of my business."

Great idea -- do know how well it performed.

I know of an agent putting Perfume on Mailers.

I told him I would think it would be a waste of money.

ALso, a lot of people like myself can't be around it. I would just trash it asap.

Aroma therapy is big business. When selling a house they have the smell of chocolate cookies baking. Just as already mentioned they have scents to entice people to do something. They are done very lightly so as not to offend anyone.

1st thing I do, when I get mail that has any kind of perfume on it, is trash it. It gives me a bad headache.

The first thing my wife does if I recieve a letter with perfume on it is give me a hard time....Consequently the first thing I do is try and get a hold of the salesperson and make thier life miserable.

You guys must get a lot more junk mail than I do. I can honestly say that after many years of receiving mail, I've NEVER gotten mail with perfume on it.

Any piece of scented mail goes unopened into the trash immediately. My wife is allergic to most perfumes. She even quit subscribed to many of the women's magazines she loved becasue they started adding scents tot eh perfume ads.
