No doubt a good liberal Democrat like Maria Shriver supported this intrusion into our liberty.
Maria Shriver Busted Breaking Husband Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Cell Phone ...
But it is just one more example of liberals passing laws for society, and thinking that they are above the same stink that they shovel at us.
Robert, I think you're completely missing the point of the direction in which America is heading.
The goal for this evil country is a 300 million-person commune with a ruling class to take care of us. The ruling class will consist of professional politicians, attorneys, the federal bureaucracy, and their spouses. So Maria is cool.
The great thing is, we will no longer have to worry about the burden of a free press, paying for what health care is allowed us, working too hard at our jobs (if we want to work at all), or the pressures and responsibilities associated with upward mobility. All will be taken care of, for us.
Thank goodness we have Our Great Leaders to tell us what to do and to make life fair for us. This is going to be wonderful.
Please get with the program, or I will be forced to report you online.

"Hey waitress! Bring us a bottle of tequila and call the cops!"
Talking on a cell phone or texting while driving has proven to be at least if not more dangerous than drunk driving. It may be an intrusion on your liberty to ban it -- but you are a potential threat to my life when you do it. There ARE some things that need to be regulated and/or prohibited -- such as the air line pilot flying drunk.
If the Terminator's wife or anyone else breaks the law, they should be ticketed or arrested. If that's the case, then this IS a classic double standard.
It's not a Demorcat or Republican issue, as I'm sure you know. In a democratic republic, on one should be above the law, or below it.
Actually the most dangerous part of driving is actually driving. Driving would be safer if we all wore helmets and I think it's high time that our nanny state required this. Maybe the only vehicles that should be allowed would be electric buses.
How about a full roll cage in every car? That would be safer I think. We also need to get rid of the warning signs on freeways that everyone slows up to read. That just sets up BFNAR (breaking for no apparent reason).
While texting and using a phone may be dangerous, how far do we allow the goverment to go to protect us? Every law restricts freedom in some way.
Don't get me started about the bullshit that I am forced to wear a helmet while riding my motorcycle. Or that seat belt that I must wear. I do this things voluntarily but resent a law requiring it.
Did you know there is no law restricting ability to read a newspaper, map, or book while driving? No cop has ever stopped me for putting on eyeliner. (Whoops, TMI).

Politicians, and especially lib politicians, truly believe that the cell phone laws don't apply to them because whatever they are saying on the phone is important whereas whatever you or I may say on the phone is unimportant.
Yet another reason for term limits. These people should not be left in office long enough to start thinking they are more important than the people who elected them.
By the way, the closest I have come to a wreck recently was while trying to scrape some of the gunk off a Whopper. I am in favor of a law that would forbid any food in a car, even candy bars, unless you had a designated passenger who puts the food directly in your mouth. while you keep your hands on the wheel.

OK, I take your point. But do you realize what the penalties in CA are for violating the law?
So what am I supposed to conclude from this, that cell phone use is as dangerous as drunk driving? Apparently not given the comparative fines and punishments.
And if CA attempted to fine for cell phone use, the same as they do for drunk driving, what do you think would have happened when they passed the law? Maybe just a little public outrage?
So your point is interesting but simply the "excuse" that liberals routinely use to infinge on our liberties. The fact that CA passed this law with "no teeth" underscores the slippery slimey slope that governments use to find new ways to tell us what to do.
Rick, I don't know what to say. I could feel insulted, but I don't.
Ya know where I draw the line buddy? When you and your biatch a$$ friend Sheryl Crow tell me I can wipe with just one sheet of toilet paper. I know that's the next step for you, but in my neck of the woods, that dog's huntin' days are long gone.
