Don Barr agency ?             Go to Top

Anyone have any info on this agency? I got an email from Parker and Asses stating that all agents will be able to write Coventry products thru the Don Barr agency. No release will be needed. They said I would be hearing from this agency soon.

Is this just another one of their shell companies?

It's not a matter of being able to turn and run. The only contract I have left with parker and Asses is Coventry. They are not allowed to sell Coventry anymore, but, they won't release the agents so that we can contract elsewhere.

They sent the email out about the Don Barr group taking over the Coventry contracts and we could still write Coventry without needing to be released.

It's not my intent to write Coventry anyway excpet for a few rare cases where it happens to be the best or only option for people and for the occasional PDP.

I was told that I could write the PDP thru one of my Nutual contracts, but, Coventry says that I can't because I certified for the '09 season while still under Parker.

If this Don Barr is just like Parker, I won't get paid even if I write business. That's why I aksed.

Well i can give you an example i heard from one of our agents that was writing a product with Don Barr. The carrier put out a bonus plan for april - june effectives that was direct to the agent. When they paid it directly to the agent, Mr. Barr insisted that everyone photocopy their checks and send them to SFS so that they could withhold their piece from the next commission check.
Good Luck!

That sounds just like Parker. I got that same bonus from Coventry. It was paid in July. My problem was that my bonus did go straight to Parker and they stole it all. It was a $600 bonus and I didn't get a dime of it.

Don Barr (Senior Financial Solution) is located in PA. Last I heard, he was paying $150 for MA last year for independent agents. He has a captive and independent contracts. Good Luck!

I've heard rumors of class action against Parker Asses. I was part of the same against Physician's Mutual in the mid 90's. The problem is, you only get a very small portion of your actual losses. I have never seen a single renewal from Parker, lost over $7000 in escrow monies. If it is any consolation, outfits like this usually wind up hanging themselves-- eventually. But make no mistake about it, you had better watch it if you conduct business for these people-- cross EVERY T and dot EVERY I. I think CMS is out to get them. Frankly, I don't blame them.

There is a lawsuit in the works against Parker and Asses. It has not been certified as a class action yet because it hasn't been filed yet. They are in the deposition stages right now. If someone wants to get in on it, send me a pm and I'll give you the contact in Indianapolis, In that is spearheading the thing.
