“Don’t be in a hurry to die!”

My father says this every time a “speeder” would fly past us while we were driving somewhere. That or “see ya at the next red light” which always ended up being accurate.

You see, there are potential problems when you speed. The most obvious is you can get killed or of course that you’re breaking the law and you can get a ticket.

Another one is that you will miss things along the way. Whether it’s beautiful scenery or even your exit, when you’re speeding you’re obviously not focused on the moment.

Allow me to explain why I recalled this insightful advice.

John (IHIAA) has a trivia question contest going on, and instead of reading the entire question, I was in a hurry, and of course, I got it wrong. (he loved that by the way, LOL)

So I started thinking (as my Dad’s phrase crept into my head) and I realized that my Father’s quote is so beneficial not only in life, but in sales as well.

Don’t be in a hurry to die or to crash and burn. Invest the time in the customer and check the details twice, it works for Santa Claus right?

Don’t be in a rush to find out if the client “qualifies,” just let your presentation progress naturally and flow. A client can tell if you’re in a hurry, they can feel it and/or hear it and it won’t have a beneficial effect.

So if we rush through a sale, we can kill the sale.

If we try to rush our career, we can kill our career.

Another thing my Father said was “slow and steady wins the race.” So be patient and persistent in your sales career and you'll arrive at your destination safely.

Don’t be in a hurry to die.
