So about 4-5 years ago or so, I was on the job hunt. I went and interviewed at "First Mountain Mortgage" from an advertisement they had on Find Jobs. Build a Better Career. Find Your Calling. | Monster.com. The interview was the weirdest one I have ever been to. The guy talked AT me the entire time, talking about his accomplishments, how awesome he was, what it takes to be successful, etc. He then started telling me the rules at his office...

1: Employees are not allowed to talk to each other.
2: Employees are not allowed to talk to or see each other outside of work either. (if they did, they were fired)
3: Suit coats must be on hand at all times. (even though you were selling over the phone)
4: You must be in by 9:00AM every day. If you are late 2 times in a 1 year period, you are fired.

I could go on and on with the crazy rules this guy had.

Long story short... he offers me the job, to which I reply "I will let you know..." trying not to laugh at him.... and already knowing full well that I wasn't taking the job...haha.

Next thing I know, on the following Monday, I received the voicemail that is attached in the link below. Keep in mind, I never accepted this job. I had Vonage, and saved it.... it is too priceless to delete! I haven't heard it in so long, and just today a friend found it on his computer and emailed it over. I definitely get a good laugh from it every time.

Today I saw an ad on Career Builder that had a familiar name. The dude now runs an Allstate agency from the same building and is hiring....

Anyways... when you are having a bad day selling, just think.... no matter how bad it seems... or how hard it feels to cold call, or talk to people, etc, NOTHING can be as bad as THIS guys life!

In the overall market, I put mortgage brokers right there with personal injury lawyers and pot-lot used car salesmen.

I think I saw his training videos, they were a little dated (1930's) and in German.

Haha I see you searched his lovely old company on Google? He got what he deserved!

I also found it extremely funny that he apparently tried running for political office... and got KILLED at the polls.

Glad you guys have enjoyed this. It amazes me as well that people like this can have any success in business. The fact he is selling insurance scares me....

Good point! Although I don't think that the rules applied to him. He was "above the rules".

Thanks John - I had actually deleted it a while back when I was away from insurance. I just re-activated it. I had been meaning to do so for some time, so I'm actually glad you reminded me!
