E-Mail Notification

I just started using outlook after a 3 year break. Does anybody know if the read/notify e-mail tracking works or is there software, service, etc. I can use to accomplish the same thing?

I tried tracking a message sent to a client, as well as my yahoo account and did not receive a notify message. Just wondering if this is normal....thanks.

I use Outlook Express & Read Notify and it works fine. You need to download a utility from Read Notify to install inside Outlook. My guess would be you did not trigger the tracking when you sent the email.

I also use Outlook Express and don't have any problems. I have a question for you as I'm sure you will know. I get tons of spam every day. I have looked and looked and can't find out how to block it. It that a problem for you? If so how do you deal with it besides hitting the Delete button. I'm actually getting quite good at that.

It seems that everyone wants to sell me cheap drugs, cheap software, refinance my home and there must be hidden video cameras in every restroom I have ever been in.

Frank, your ISP should offer you some sort of spam protection. Some have filters you can adjust, others have white lists. Most of the major ISP's (and a lot of the smaller ones) have built in filters.

I have multiple accounts but everything is read & mailed via Outlook.

My gmail account gets the most spam. Can't say why because I rarely use it, only as a back up when others are down.

The rest comes thru Bellsouth which does a fairly good job of keeping out the junk. The best filter is with my Fastmail account. I can tailor it to block certain addresses and let the spam cop do the rest.

As for the rest, yes, they do have spy camera's in the bathroom, bedroom and even eyes watching you right now. .

The guy's eyes on the top look like he got "over served" last night and stayed to help them empty the ash trays and turn off the lights.

I have satellite for all my computers. Can't get DSL or cable. Can I get that through them? I have never thought to check. I guess I can pick up the phone and ask them. I'll do that in the morning.

I didn't think that would help me with Outlook Express. That is all I use for e-mail. I have an e-mail account but never use it. I really don't want my business e-mail to be sent with a yahoo address. However, it would make my life a little easier, but maybe not as interesting.

Spam cop comes with my Fastmail account. I use my domain to send & receive via Fastmail. No one ever see's that account name unless I specifically instruct them.

Fastmail charges $24 per year to send & receive email. They have a free account but it can only be used for very low volume. They have another that is a bit higher volume for $14 one time. I use the one with the annual fee and have no problems. It includes Kaspersky virus scan and spam cop in the account at no extra charge.

I still get spam, but not anywhere near what I get from gmail.

My Bellsouth account does the best job of filtering spam.

Thanks for the help. I will be getting Fastmail. Spam is a minor inconvenience but the more of those I can get rid of, the more quality I add to my life.

Looks like they have increased the price to $39.95 per year. Sounds like a bargain even at that price.

I really appreciate the tip.

The price may have increased. I renewed about 6 months ago and just didn't bother to look up the renewal. Had them for maybe 5 years. Only one major service issue when their servers went down & backup failed to come online. Service was offline for 3 - 4 days. Major bummer.

Most of my email goes to my domain (bob@bobvineyard.com) but I still have some stragglers that use fastmail, gmail and bellsouth. Everything filters thru Fastmail and is retrieved via Outlook Express.

Gmail is automatically forwarded to Fastmail. Bellsouth stays on the server until polled. Fastmail stays on the server until polled.

Outlook polls both Bellsouth & Fastmail on command. I have a notifier (from Fastmail) that let's me know when new mail arrives.

Outlook uses an IMAP connection for Fastmail. Bellsouth is POP3.

I used redundancy since I can't be without email for even a few hours. Of course if the DSL goes down & I have to use dial up I might as well go play golf.

The redundancy creates a little extra work but beats the heck out of being totally offline for an extended period which can happen with any mail server.

Kaspersky is one of the better virus scanners and Spam Cop does a better job than most in controlling junk mail. It is a good value.

but seriously, you just have to be REALLY careful with which sites you give your email to. I started a free hotmail account just for sites I think will send me spam. Only use your work email for clients and co-workers, oh yeah, and stop looking at so much porn, it will make you go blind.

Mastered that a long time ago. After all, I am an insurance agent you know. Been in training to become a Master Agent my whole life.

I thought that was a requirement to becoming an agent. All of the agents I have ever known or talked to can do that. Have an office at home, type with one hand while holding the phone with the other.

Can't all agents do that????? I guess it must be only the really successful agents who have mastered that.

Plantronics is the way to go. Buy either the earpiece model or the handsfree headset. Best $100ish I ever spent.
