My wife's email account is receiving a tremendous amount of spam. It started at about 20/day...not it is over 250 a day!

Are there any good anti-spam programs that are free? She is running Windows 98se...and Outlook Express...perhaps there are some settings I can change?

Please help...when Momma ain't happy...ain't nobody happy

There are other services, but anytime someone new sends you an email this service shoots them back a verfication. The sender must enter in a code for you to receive the message.

That's what I have heard as well. I will probably encourage her to start a new email account...

On a side note...one of the spammers is www.yourhealthquoteonline.com

She gets several from these knuckleheads everyday...at the bottom of their home page they have logos for unicare, assurant, humana, aetna and others...as well as my personal fav...mega.

I don't use and have never used Outlook Express so am not that familiar with the settings. But turning off HTML is a first step i.e. setting it to where HTML graphics aren't automatically downloaded. Somehow that validates the address for the spammers if your email automatically displays the images.

It also should have some span controls built in, where it will detect most spam and put it in a junk folder instead of the inbox. But you'll have to periodically check the junk folder b/c occasionally some legitimate emails will get put there too. If your version of outlook lacks this, consider switching to Mozilla Thunderbird. It works similar enough to Outlook and has pretty good spam controls.

this is on another note but every time I check my e-mail I have a "insurance forum" list of evey thread that I have viewed. How do I stop that from happening? Sometimes it's like 25-30 of them replies.
