Ex-Realtor to New Insurance agent             Go to Top

I recently completed sales training with a major captive insurance company and now awaiting my final approval to write. I'm looking forward to a fast, yet professional, start with my new career. In my previous career as a realtor I held several seminars and would like to incorporate seminars in my insurance business as well. I would like to know is any one having success with insurance seminars and , if so, in what venues are they being held?

This is my first post, so take it easy on me, please!!!

Give us an idea of the major company you are with and that will help determine the type of seminars that will work. There are a lot of different approaches that are very effective.

Seminars targeting whom?

May I ask why you chose to go captive over independent?

Welcome to the forum.

We're seeing droves of ex-realtors and mortgage brokers come into the insurance biz.

Personally I don't think most will make it. Why? Because for the past 5 years both realtors and mortgage sales people have had the business simply walk in the door. Everyone was flipping homes, buying homes, selling homes... and even more were doing re-fi deals.

Well, now these folks are going to have to prospect for the business... and prospecting is not a genre that they are used to... and my bet is that most will wash out. Cold calling is hard... and "hard" is not something I'd say that most realtors and mortgage brokers are used to. Some will do OK... but most will give up the ghost in 90 days.

Which is what I said months ago. Getting an insurance license is cheap. Using it is pricey.

Use the forums and do searches on questions that you might have. Good luck!

Insure 2007

If you are with "major" company and you are captive then any seminars you do will have to be approved by the compliance department.

I'm bettin' Primerica when seminars are mentioned.

As a nonsecurities licensed independent agent I don't have to have my seminars approved by anyone. Of course, I have to stay within my state's DOI regulations.

Be careful, more and more State and Federal SEC officers are starting to attend all types of seminars looking for unsuitable sales & non-registered people giving securities advice.

Most definitely. I've been to some and the presenter was so far out there that he should have his license suspended.
