When MA apps ask whether the client is working or not, why is that question being asked. I mean what difference does it make?

On long term care, life insurance, and disability it is used as one of many indicators of whether the person is currently functioning but unless a person has renal disease they are good to go with an MA. So what are they trying to get at there. If a person says "I work one afternoon a week at the senior citizen center, then what? You check yes and it tells them what?

Where are they headed with that question?

Yeh, I know. It's trivia.

Hi All, Been in FE for 5 years now. Have sold...

Hi All, Been in FE for 5 years now. Have sold with 6 different companies and there product lines for FE. All in all have around the same retention on biz that's 1 year old, say 80 to 85% on (submitted) business. That's except for one! 65-70% is the best I can do with company "X", and that's looking at a five year picture. I've inquired threw the years with my up-line, and others I've come to know with this and always get different versions of "the company line". They say the economy is bad or something to that effect. Well recently a customer called to cancel, and told me company "X" had been calling every since I sold them. Trying to sell them other (BS) in there words. That the Mrs. signed up for identity theft, and they started taking it straight from there acct. under company "X s" name with no signed authorization! They apparently got here to sign up for one month free, and she forgot to call, and request a form,to be mailed, to sign,to mail back in, to cancel! So with much confusion I called company X. Not only identity theft, but many other BS products where being crammed down my hard earned customers throat. This wasn't the first time an existing customer had mentioned this to me, just the first time I put 1 and 1 together. I mean WTF! I have called up-line with the other companies and have yet to find anyone else doing this. Also called company X upline and come to find out, X is partners or owns these sub companies reselling everthing from cancer policies to dental care to identity theft to whom no's what else! All of the back of my work, or atleast with a dame good preapproche. For example: say my mortgage company calls to varify my address or whatever. Thinking its my mortgage company I'll probably answer the phone. Then I'll most likely listen and answer there reason for calling. Now they have my attention. As a saleman getting to that point, getting past the proverbial wall is step 1 on any product. It would be very easy to transition to some offer at this point and all under the pretense that I'm talking to my mortgage company. I just wonder if anyone thinks its costing me in persistancy? Thank's:skeptical:

AARP Got to Love'um

AARP is helping me sell Med Supps.

So far this...

AARP is helping me sell Med Supps.

So far this week I have written four Med Supps for two couples. That in of itself is not worthy of starting a new thread.

What is significant about that is that they called me and asked me to sell them a Med Supp. All four had AARP, all four said they were fed up with AARP's stand on whats his name's health care proposals.

AARP is rapidly falling out of grace with seniors. They are finally seeing AARP for what they really are. An organization that exists, not to help seniors, but to bleed them of every cent they have. (I'm holding back.)

For all those agents who are keeping track of who the people you are calling have their current policy with now is the time to drop the hammer on everyone you have talked to who told you they have AARP and "love them". When you call them back ask them what they think of AARP's stand.

Normally seniors will not pay more to take a Med Supp than what they are currently paying. In talking to the first couple the guy said, when I got there, "I don't care what it costs, I'll take it." I was able to save them money but I really think he would have taken it even if mine was a few dollars more.

This is an incredibly unique opportunity and may not last for very long. Get on the phone and start calling all those AARP people you have talked to in the past and make sure you have a couple of extra pens handy so you don't run out of ink.

Felony Conviction - Want to Sell Final Expense

I am in Ohio. Just finished serving a 20 month...

I am in Ohio. Just finished serving a 20 month sentence in federal prison, for crimes committed in '98-2001 (it took years for them to allow me to plead guilty). I received my grand jury subpeona in '02, did not got go to prison till '08.

My charges I pled to were:

1) Subscribing to a Tax Return which he did not believe to be true and Correct as to Every Material Matter

2) Making False Documents Containing Materially False Statements

Prior to '02 I was in real estate, and a top, top, top performer ( 5 years in a row, multiple 6 figure income). In '03 took a break, and started a drain cleaning business, which won the Angie's List Super Service Award 3 years in a row. Terrific comments from clients testifying to what a great job we did (I sold the business before entering prison). Why I bring this out, is I feel I rehabilitated myself even BEFORE I went to prison. I screwed up (BAD), and paid bad.

This is a 2 prong question.

First - does anyone know if the Dept of Insurance will grant me a waiver. I know they CAN, the question is will they? Can anyone recommend an atty in Columbus, Ohio that would be good at advocating this for me?

The second is the second hurdle? IF I get the license, and I get an agency to take me on, will any insurers allow me to write for them?

I KNOW this will not be easy. I just want to know if it is doable.
The funny thing is, due to my experience, I am likely the most honest person out there now. I have become nuts about honesty.

If anyone would like to consider taking me on, and advocating for me, I can promise you an amazing rep. We are talking someone who will work any area, 60 - 70 hours per week, invest time, money, etc. I am tremendous in sales.

I'd really appreciate some replies and input. God Bless you all. Please give me some suggestions if you can. I am looking for more then the actual Ohio Revised Code (which I read). I am looking for people who have experience with these situations.

I've been looking at adding Med Supps to my bag of tricks.

As I understand it, the insured has to pay for Part B plus the med supp premium?

I looked at plan J in my county and is starts out at $180 a month

As to compensation, it seems that commissions run from 15-22%.

That's a FYC of $324 at the low end. And as understand it, it's level commissions for 6 years? If I kept them on the books, even with changing carriers to get a better rate, the total comp would be around $2000?

If that's correct, it seems unbelievable. If I sold 100 med supps the first year, that's about $65,000 in fyc. And if I kept those same 100 clients on the books Year 2, and added another 100 med supp clients in Year 2, that would a total $130,000 in compensation for Year 2. Is my understanding of this concept correct?

Medicare Paid $47 Billion in Medicare Fraud

It's Obama's fault....

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The...

It's Obama's fault....

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government paid more than $47 billion in questionable Medicare claims including medical treatment showing little relation to a patient's condition, wasting taxpayer dollars at a rate nearly three times the previous year.
Excerpts of a new federal report, obtained by The Associated Press, show a dramatic increase in improper payments in the $440 billion Medicare program that has been cited by government auditors as a high risk for fraud and waste for 20 years.
It's not clear whether Medicare fraud is actually worsening. Much of the increase in the last year is attributed to a change in the Health and Human Services Department's methodology that imposes stricter documentation requirements and includes more improper payments - part of a data-collection effort being ordered government-wide by President Barack Obama next week to promote "honest budgeting" and accurate statistics.
Still, the fiscal 2009 financial report - covering the first few months of the Obama administration - highlights the challenges ahead for a government that is seeking in part to pay for its proposed health care overhaul by cracking down on Medicare fraud. While noting that several new anti-fraud efforts were beginning, the government report makes clear that "aggressive actions" to date aimed at reducing improper payments had yielded little improvement.
In recent years, the suspect claims have included Medicare prescriptions from doctors who were dead, and requests for payment for medical supplies such as blood glucose strips for sexual impotence and diabetic shoes for leg amputees. Patients, many of them new citizens who barely speak English, are sometimes recruited by brokers who go door-to-door offering hundreds of dollars for use of their Medicare numbers.
Obama is expected to announce new initiatives next week to help crack down on Medicare fraud, including a government-wide Web site aimed at providing a fuller account of health care spending and improper payments made by various agencies. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also will launch a Web interactive next month that will allow users to track Medicare payment information by categories such as state, diagnosis and hospital.
According to the report, the Bush administration from 2005-2008 reported improper payments of roughly 4 percent in the fee for service program, or about $17 billion total in 2008. Government officials at the time, however, typically did not consider a Medicare payment improper if the medical documentation was incomplete or a doctor's signature was illegible. Since these were flaws that ordinarily bar payment, that methodology drew complaints from government auditors that the figures were understated.
For fiscal year 2009, the Obama administration began counting those claims as improper, but was unable to complete an official tally based on the new methodology. As a result, it officially reported improper payments for its fee for service program at 7.8 percent, representing a partial tally under the new formula. But it considers the unofficial tally of 12.4 percent to be more representative.
Beginning next year, the 12.4 percent figure - or a total of $47 billion in improper payments when counting both Medicare fee for service and managed care - will be used as the baseline estimate. The federal report sets a target of reducing improper payments in the fee for service program to 9.5 percent by next year, which would represent a savings of roughly $9.7 billion.
The findings come as the Obama administration is making Medicare anti-fraud efforts an important priority. In recent months, HHS has said it was multiplying by 10 the number of agents and prosecutors targeting fraud in Miami, Los Angeles and other strategic cities where tens of billions of dollars are believed to be lost each year. The new partnership seeks to have better sharing of real-time intelligence data on health care fraud patterns.
Officials say they also want to increase training and outreach among Medicare providers to reduce documentation errors, while proposed health overhaul legislation would increase background checks on Medicare claimants and impose stiffer penalties for false claims.
Other findings:
-In the Medicaid program for the poor, roughly $18.1 billion, or 9.6 percent of claims, are believed to be improper payments.
-Using a baseline of 12.4 percent in improper payments in the Medicare fee for service program, HHS is setting targets of reducing fraud and waste to 9.5 percent, 8.5 percent, and 8.0 percent, respectively, for fiscal years 2010 through 2012.
Records released earlier this week showed that CMS for three years ignored internal watchdog warnings about swindlers stealing millions of dollars by scamming several Medicare programs. The agency received roughly 30 warnings from inspectors but didn't respond to half of them, even after repeated letters.

I am selling a lot of Med. Supps up here in Pa.....

I am selling a lot of Med. Supps up here in Pa.. the more I get into this the more I love it! BUT, as you do with the elderly crowd, you run into a lot of health issues.... If underwriting is pretty much the same across the board, why is that one company will accept you if you can "fog a mirror" yet another company will not accept you if you have emphysema or had a hip replacement 3 years ago?

I've read on here that AARP will accept you no matter what...or with only a few acceptions. But New Era, Gerber, or any other compnay that I have been appointed with denies a senior with such problems as listed above!

Back in April, I spoke with a lady yesterday, she and her husband got a Med. Supp from Bankers Life (plan J)... now she had Spinal Stenosis Surgery 3 years ago, hip replacement 2 1/2 years ago (not due to a disease), and she has COPD (not being treated for... under control... she was told 10 years ago that she had it), but according to the underwriting SHE WILL BE A DENIAL!!! Obviously, I will tell her to just stay with Bankers, but she's paying 190.00 a month for it, where I can get her into a plan F with Gerber for $135.00 a month..

Just curious what you fellas do?? How do you handle her question about... Why did they accept me and nothing has changed in my health since April... but you won't! Her husband is a wonderful candidate.. he's as healthy as a 74 year old can be... i know I can help him, I just hate that I can't help her as well!!!

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated!:1wink:
