Sometimes a rate up is preferable to a rider.

You need to understand risk before you get into that kind of evaluation.

Then how do you justify using Time?

Every client I have with Time, and there aren't that many, have riders.

CSD's in MD - rate up for HBP, Cholesterol, Anxiety, Depression, etc...No one signs a rider with me anymore - off to MHIP

You seem to have a unique situation in MD.

That is the only state where they are competitive and they do not use riders.

'tis true - they do not issue riders here - very very rarely - then I'm off to MHIP. Assurant loves MD - 3rd most profitable state for Time and they are going to really be focusing on MD biz.

I can't see how agents don't have maternity issues. When I ask about future pregnancies about 30% say yes - GR's out of the picture - Aetna blew the rates out in '06 - it's all Assurant for maternity cases.

Assurant obviously blew the MD rates out - but gave us a decrease a few months back - then a nice one coming in July and they'll be back in the game here.

Golden Rule because they make their members join a buyer's club (Federation of American Consumers). The thought of being spammed by affiliates and whomever else fact sells their list to simply thrills clients.

Every state is different, but in GA GR has the best maternity benefit.

I offer them most of the time when maternity is an issue.

They still get a fair amount of my regular business, but not as much as they did before H1 started with their revamped portfolio.

Comparing GR to HumanaOne in Florida is like apples and oranges. Humana has clearly superior coverage, in every way.

Am I the only agent who remembers GR pulling out of the state of GA three times in the last 15 years or so? Existing clients were left with out coverage on two occasions. That's a client to agent phone call you don't need.

I can say with certainty, when GR left GA in 2006 it was because the DOI wanted new verbiage and a filed policy (vs. association) in place.

They have left other states (LA for example) due to similar situations.

In GA they were gone for about 8 months. While not actively writing business, they continued to service and renew existing policies.

In LA it was different. The DOI would not allow them to renew in force policies. They refiled the same policy under UHC and it was accepted by the DOI. Existing GR policies aged off at renewal.
