Looks to me as though the teams with a real chance in this thing are Florida, Texas, and maybe 'Bama, LSU, PSU, Miami... Right now they are all just trying to get to October...
A month later, and is anyone invincible? National championship is looking to be more open. Not sure Texas can get by OSU. Not sure Florida and 'Bama can win out.
Not really. Only one loss by LSU and that was to FLA. LSU is (hopefully) starting to get a little offense working. I've seen this scenario play out before and the outcome will depend on Alabama. I'm talking about a possible challenge for the SEC championship that might leave FLA out in the cold depending on a few key games.
I frankly have not been impressed by Fla's weak wins this season. I'm talking about their thin one-touchdown wins.
NCAA needs to go back to the ten game seasons so the teams won't fatigue during this stretch every year. Given this format, somebody emerges in the last weeks of the season, lucky enough to regain injured players, and the right blend of schedule and travel, to get to the national championship game. With the exception of last year's game, we have not had a good matchup for a long time. Does the concept of PLAYOFF take on any more meaning???
As long as money is the key factor in college football, you will see more and more games, more injuries, and fewer students able to afford tickets.
LSU is probably the leader in paying coaches the same amount in a year that a twenty or more professors get. Of course, paying a coach big bucks does lead to loyalty. I mean, look at Nick Sabin.

The allmighty dollar. I live near a small college. And the largest scholarship fundraiser in my town goes towards athletic scholarships by a gigantic margin.
I imagine the same thing can be said for the LSUs or the world. Certainly the amount of money the head coach of the football program brings in dwarfs the amount of money a gay studies professor, or english lit professor brings in.
Alright Tiger fans (and I ain't talking Auburn), you have to WIN OUT to get to the national championship game. Much easier said than done, but it IS in front of you. What if Texas, Florida or Alabama lose one? Does an undefeated Cincinnati or TCU pass them in BCS? Here we go again...
Winding down now. Florida and Alabama will eliminate one or the other. If TU can win out, the championship game next year will be SEC vs. SWC. Oops, I meant Big 12. Now the Cotton Bowl is moving to Jerry's Death Star. What I wouldn't give for the old days before this realignment crap. Remember the stretch of the Cotton Bowl when Texas played Tennessee, Notre Dame, etc..? Now, that was college bowls at their best. Bring back the wishbone!!! Hell, if the Aggies would have had the guts to run with what they brung in the mid 90's, they'd have won the national championship with that stable of backs.

I did go to Florida for two semesters, but that is thin.
I was so hoping for an LSU win over Alabama so that we would have another crack at FLA. Given our record with Saban and my thin ties to FLA, rooting for a FLA win if it comes to an eventual ALA vs FLA game for the SEC will be pretty easy. On the other hand, I think I would just prefer a couple of straight losses for Alabama.
