What I find interesting is that the same Mormon coalition that bankrolled the anti-gay prop in CA are using the same methods (all legal, although with some questionable "facts" in their ads:
Speaking of California, just read where the blow-out patch that CA put on its budget has gone off a cliff again after just five months. Who would have ever thought it would have lasted that long. Certainly surprised me. Of course Obama let the states use stimulus funds to patch their deficits so that clouded the picture. Other than that, all cost saving and revenue projections at either fed or state levels are almost always bogus. My state included.
Might have to dust off my theory from a year ago that the CA thing would blow up right in them middle of health reform and put the fear of God in people about what spending based on phony plans can look like and make them wonder if they want the country to look like CA- implementing health reform while cutting the health services it already has. Yeh. That's smooth. I had to set that theory aside when CA sold some bogus bonds and put some bogus savings on the books and plugged some stimulus funds, but my theory is BAAAACK! Hope our credit is still good with the pawn shops in China. Let's see do we want to fund a five trillion dollar health care plan (my projection, not the CBO's) or bail California and a couple other states out. You decide.

I am told on a daily basis by Al that I am from Alabama. However much to the chagrin on my greatgrandfather, Maine and Alabama have not always played on the same team. Doesnt mean there isnt still a lot of love there because you know there is.

Oh, actually I have know him for years, moreso in earlier life.. His wife Tabby too. I don't read any of his stuff because that is not my thing but he definitely came up the hard way so I give him mucho credit. A while back, seems like it has been about ten years or so, he was hit by drunk driver while he was walking his dog on a back road and some of his injuries, brain injury especially, still drag him down a bit along with the booze as always. He was always very, very hard core lib before but after the accident he said and did some really un-mellow things. Life is a long and twisting road. Interesting parties years ago. He was with Tabby even way, way back.
We stayed at a really nice B&B on the water in Maine a few years ago. The place was owned by a gay couple, one of whom did an excellent breakfast. They really put in that extra effort to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
Now, assuming that couple had any interest in getting married (and most gays I know are not a bit interested), how would that change anything?
I get the very definite feeling that the gay marriage thing is agenda driven, not something the average gay favors.

It is a delicate balance. The locals pretty much have a live and let live attitude which can be construed as being either liberal or conservative as one may wish. However when you hammer away at people with out of state produced ads it makes people wonder whether someone is telling them how they must think and it sets off a backlash in the independent yankee psyche. Similarly, Susan Collins is a very mediocre senator but the DNC targetted her bigtime last fall and tried to bring her down. I think it raised her popularity considerably.
These national ads where they just try to change the name of the state and run it in your state can be a hoot. I see about five ads a day on TV about healthcare reform which specifically spell out how it will benefit Maine. They underscore the fact that people in Maine will no longer be denied due to pre-existing conditions and Obama is going to change all that. Uh okay. President Obama might want to use that selling point somewhere else because Maine is a guaranteed issue but thanks for thinking about us. We are actually hoping for something a little better than what we already have........and oh by the way..........we already have failed public option too... so you might want to go market that to American Samoa or something.

It wasn't a gay B&B. It was a B&B run by a gay couple. The next B&B we went to was run by a man and woman, I think they were married. However, that did not make it a straight B&B. And if the woman had been Chinese in origin, it would not have made it a straight/Chinese B&B, and so on.

Yeh, you gotta be careful at those straight B&B's in Maine. Some of them will try to recruit you. Of course if they throw in a couple free lobsters sometimes that can be a good thing.
Personally I don't really care but it would be a bit odd if someone left their s&m/bondage apparatice in the closet.

True, but you have to acknowledge cultural differences. It is easy for you guys from California to forget that some people still use saddles and spurs for horseback riding.
