Help! Starting a New P&C Independent Agency in Michigan Any Ideas

I was a captive agent for the past 5 years and now would like to start my own independent agency having trouble with companies appointing directly and also finding companies writing in Michigan new business. I would appreciate any ideas and assistance with this new venture.

Not a lot of carriers to write in MI. Safeco and Progressive are 2 that I'm aware of, I'm sure there are regionalized carriers but I think it would be extremely tough to do.
