I Have the Captive Agent Blues

I have recently left my company of 5 years to sell independently from home. I was a captive agent at my company, a call-center, for a large carrier. The call center I worked for is holding me (not giving me release papers) for 90 days. My problem here is that my new brokerage features the same carrier that I was selling. Is there anything that I can do?

Ask your brokerage for other companies that have similar products.

For example: if you were selling Mutual of Omaha, you could sell Assurity. Their product designs are very similar - at least on the surface.

If your brokerage only has ONE carrier, then they are NOT a brokerage.

If you're truly independent, find another brokerage to work with that has carriers with similar policies. You are NOT locked in to one brokerage. It could make things easier to consolidate production, but you're not locked in.
