I've heard that in the future all soc. sec., SSI,disability, etc. checks will have to be set up on direct deposit, no paper checks being mailed to recipients. Anyone have any info on this? When does it become mandatory? This will be a big help to FE agents!

You can obtain information at any SSA office. They have a booklet that explains that if you do not have a bank account you can apply for a SSA debit type of card that you can use at ATMs to withdraw the funds. I don't have the details handy, but if I go by the local SSA office I'll pick one up. They are definitely discouraging the use of the U.S. Postal Service and paper checks to make SS payments. It has been ongoing for awhile.

people who get paper checks will continue to get paper checks if they want to. It is almost impossible to get a paper SS check if you are a new enrollee to social security.

All the people who still get a paper check will eventualy die off in a generation
