Re: (P&C QUESTION) What is a Fair Commission for Commercial Lines

(P&C QUESTION) what is a fair commission for commercial lines for 1099 agents?

Are you the sole-prop or working under another agent as a 1099?

It also depends on what resources and training they are giving you (if under someone else) and what lines of commercial.

Workers' comp pays less commission but is a larger premium. BOP pays differently than general liability, which can also vary based on state and profession.

It can also vary based on the carrier. There is one here that pays 25% while others pay like 11-15%. Base that on your split, if necessary. Worker's comp often has a tiered % where the more premium you have, the less % but more overall commission. A lot of those go around 8% and down from there.

Give a little more information if ya don't mind, but I hope this helps. A decent split between you and another agent could be 50/50 on initial and then 40/60 on renewals, or some similar combination.
