I am currently a captive agent and have been in my position for over 5 years. I would like to make a move to the independent side but am leery of starting from scratch.
A bank owned independent agency in my area currently has an opening. It's a $5 million book of busines and there were 3 agents, now there are 2. Commercial and personal would be sold.
My question is, what should I ask for in terms of compensation? I would prefer a base salary with 50% of new commissions. Eventually I would be 100% commission and hopefully receiving 50% on both new and renewal.
Is this too much to ask for? How long should I expect to be on salary?
