Getting certified - when do I start looking?             Go to Top

Hello - In my state it takes 4 weeks to get licensed. So if I begin on April 9th - if all goes well and assuming I pass the test - I'd be certified in early May.

My question is: when do I start job hunting? Do I have to wait until after I am certified or can I start now?

Any tips?
Thanks.
T

Welcome to the board. What state are you in and what line of insurance are you looking to sell; health, life, senior products?

There is no reason to not start now, but it is important to convey to future employers that you are getting licensed on your own, and do not need them to walk you through it and hold your hand. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it places you in a different category of prospective employees.

As an aside, there is a job board www.indeed.com that does a great job of aggregating all of the job listings from hundreds of other sites. If you are looking to see who is hiring besides the "make millions in your pajamas" people, that is a great resource.

I'm not sure exactly what line of insurance I am interested in at this point. Any advice on how to decide?

Thanks for the advice on indeed.com. I'll check it out.
