I don't get a lot of people that fill out the quote form. maybe 1-2 per day at the most. But I have learned to be patient.
That number was 0 a few months ago. I hope to have about 3-5 within 12-18 months.
I do think shorter forms are better.

I get the same number, maybe a little less.
As for the length of the form, I'd go medium. Too short, and there's no commitment on their part, too long, and they lose interest.
I want just enough information, where if I call back, I can get all the information I need.

So Bob & Chumps, you get about 30-60 leads a month then? That's MUCH higher than what I'm getting.

I don't know if I would call these leads. When they key in their information, often the phone number is missing. They are not very responsive to emails either.
Of the roughly 40-50 I got in September, I think I wrote one.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Chumps, wouldn't you want to make sure that the phone number field is a required field that they have to input something? You can put a setting on your form that won't let them submit it w/o a phone number....just a thought. Bob, are you getting the same response?

Hard to say. Some are bogus. Some will come back, as I did write one last week that originally visted the site in September.

I thought about that. I figured since I did not solicit them, I don't want to ask for the phone number. But maybe I should reconsider.

I did a bunch of website work and some sales and marketing for a company in the beginning of this year. Completely different field, they installed crawlspace encapulation systems, and sold do it yourself kits online. But anyhow, I made the phone number a required field, and our response rate didn't go down at all. Which made me think that people were just lazy, and if they didnt have to put it there, they wouldn't. For the most part they were valid numbers too. once and a while we got bogus numbers, but that was it.

Our sales did go up though, obviously because we could call them and help them out. so if its required, they will fill it out, if its optional, they will skip it.

Do you have a stats program installed so you can see where the traffic comes from? If so, do the leads come more from organic on Google, Yahoo or sponsored search, or online directories?
I found mine come from Organic Google and Organic MSN

I don't have that but I may have something like that shortly (Google Analytics, AnnaLisa, MonaLisa or something like that)

I love Google Analytics. When you get it installed, make sure you really play around with it at all. It gives you SOOO many details but so many people don't know where to go on the program to get it. Like all Google tools, they're confusing to the average user I think Google prides themselves in being 'hard-to-figure-out'.

Re: Getting People to Fill out quote forms on your website

Some are expecting me just to e-mail them a quote (which again is no commitment on their part). Others have diabetes, and don't qualify. Others give incomplete information.
Mine is a bit lower, because I don't advertise on Yahoo, Google, etc. I would say I get maybe 1-3 per month. Some stay on the books, others are STM.
Put it this way, I ain't stayin' home following up on these exclusively. It's just another income stream.
I try my best to avoid tire-kickers. That's why I don't have a yellow page ad, or buy leads or lists.
My emphasis is on referral prospecting, and information meetings at civic groups and clubs (condo associations, etc.)
