How Do Get Contracted As a New Independent Agent?

Hello,

I am brand new to the forum, so thank you in advance for your help.

I got my Illinois Life and Health producer license 6 months ago on the recommendation of a former colleague who runs an independent agency and promised to get me contracted through him. Due to issues with his own contracts, he has been unable to contract me.

I am ready to move on, but I don't know where to go.

Is there a good IMO/FMO in Illinois that is open to new agents?

Are there reputable companies that will contract a new independent agent?

Where do I go from here?

I have 10 years of sales experience and can generate my own leads.

Followup questions:

Do I approach an FMO as an agent (producer license and E&O), or as an agency (producer license, E&O, business license)?

Am I working under their surety bond, or do I need my own?

As an agent. You can have an agency, but you'll be an independent agent. If you had to have a bond, you'd be under your own..,you're independent. I haven't had a bond since the mid 80's...do they still do them?

Here's another FMO in Illinois. This one's in Decatur. Both of these FMO's are good and between the 2 of them they can contract you with about any company out there.
