Transitioning to insurance from mortgage world; I have Life, health & VA, and just passed my general lines test (2-20 license) . Live in south florida.
I have an interview scheduled for state farm, any ideas what to expect. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

For StateFarm, as an agent, the first interview will be about scheduling you for the Limra test. It's a test to see how well you are suited to be an agent, and what the chances are of you being successful. To be honest, the test is useless, but, they make you take it.

The answers for the test appear to be as follows:
- High risk is good. i.e., you're willing to live on commissions.
- Stability is important, but not as important as getting the sale.
- You have high ethical and moral values. You still must get the sale.

The first time I took the test, I figured they were looking for 'banker' style conservativism. Not true. They are looking for individuals that are real go-getters, albeit, honest and ethical. For me, the questions are to subjective, since a lot of questions would be answered differently, depending on the scenerio of why you are answering the question.

Have fun. Don't sweat the interview.

Dan

100% corporate GARBAGE.

Those tests are CRAP they are designed to see if you can live off of the pennies you will be receiving as you eat dirt and slow build a captive business with uncompetative products and massive competition.

Bottom line if you WANT to do it, and have the ABILITY to do it they won't run you away. Too bad there are offices on every street corner. I am certain they will make you get your P&C, and securities licenses as well - I am not a fan of the securities license, but you won't have a choice in the matter.

I hope you have a couple hundred grand socked away while this takes years to build, they have a set defined formula - it can work well, if you have time and lots of it.

Boy, a lot of truth to this post.

I've worked as a manager for one of their main competitors, and worked the State Farm account for two AFOs here in Florida as a wholesaler.

Homeowners? Forget it. Doesn't exist here in FL except for the state risk pool (Citizen's)

Auto? You're competitive on the squeakiest-clean risks. Everything else? You walk 'em. No revenue for you.

They will want you to sell:

1) life insurance, life insurance, life insurance
2) their laughable equity products (mf's, etc.)
3) bank products (car loans, HELOCs, etc.)

Good luck!

This interview is for an agent position. I already took the LIMRA test, which from my understanding was if you were qualified to open a storefront. Needless to say I failed test. Ambiguous questions when you dont know if you should be answering as a sole proprietor on your own or team player in a branch, among countless others, made that test completely pointless. Its so utterly stupid that, they disqualified me based on a multiple choice test, thereby taking the decision making process out of a decision maker (corp america at its best), without actually speaking to anyone. Although independent would be nice, I dont think that is a reality as I am new, with limited reserves.
I assume a base salary + commission structure is involved. hope someone could shed light on what else to expect, or name of a better or other company to shop my life, health & VA, and my general lines license. thanks

I hope someone tracks these results based on male / female and racial lines.

I hope someone sues them to death , those tests should be illegal.

How about Farmers in fla? Here in TX they have an agent on every corner and are recruiting all the time like crazy, and you can start as a life agent specialist and eventually move into P&c?
