This from the following article:
The accelerating moral panic about alleged global warming and its projected catastrophic effects is a fundamentally religious phenomenon. Despite its pretensions, it is not primarily about science. Rather, it represents the emergence of a new religious movement (an NRM, or what used to be called a ‘cult’). This new form of eco-fundamentalism is characterized by a widely excessive faith in science, a hatred and despair at Humanity, an intolerance of opposition or even skepticism, and a near hysterical form of secular Apocalypticism.

Interesting. I haven't really made that connection before.

It is so true. People I know with fanatical religious beliefs, or quasi-religious (Scientology) get extremely uptight when they try to tell how their beliefs are the "true" beliefs and you want to debate the obvious holes in their religion.

This is especially fun with Scientologists since their religion is based on the works of a mediocre science fiction writer who started the religion as a joke. Talk about a system of beliefs that is full of holes.

Yet power, money and stubborn belief will trump whatever logic you want to bring up every single time. "Polar bear populations are increasing." "You don't believe they are endangered?" "Populations are increasing." "Turn off his mike..."

It was amazing that Al Gore actually took questions in that meeting. Roll tape:

John Stossel, another libertarian who has moved over to Fox News, had this at his blog:

Hey, even Elvis has a church (several). Did he really exist? Can you prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt? Really? How?

The "Unitics" (hey, they call themselves that - Unity School of Christianity, so-called, I actually worked for the cult for awhile, and knew more about what they believed than they did, being a long-time new-ager [musician, ya know] long before new age was "cool") say you can just take a little of each religion and concoct your own individual religion, how nice and warm and fuzzy! And ALL of this is accepted with no thought nowadays (rightly so, I suppose) EXCEPT Old Fashioned Christianity - now THERE you will be ridiculed and laughed out of the room, or worse (remember, I worked for libs and cults, I was "neutral" as an employee, but I was privy to this hypocrisy on a daily basis.) They always say "we accept all views and any views and we love everyone". I constantly put them to the test and it irritated them to no end. BECAUSE THEY DON'T! Hypocrites. It burns them to no end to experience a true believer walking and living true to his beliefs, and actually living out what they "claim" to do but don't. I wonder why that is? Actually, I don't - something about pearls and swine. Just asking to waste my time and hear myself type.
