Actually, Nick and his fiance both put out a request for me as his fiance didn't have any left. Nobody had responded to his req. so in all fairness, he DID try to help me with an invite!

that is an optional set-up. Not sure which is default: GV# or actual caller number... but it is easy to change.

You can also choose your number. I was able to get the same last for number as my toll free and office number. Easier to remember.

If I have to give out a cell number I give the GV number. Not my real cell. That way the caller is announced.

That's what I did, I searched for a number with the last four as my cell.

If I don't have "show google voice number" activated... will it show any indication at all on my cell caller ID that it is from my GV number?

Nope, if you don't have it set to show your GV number, it's as if someone was calling you directly. The good thing about it is tht you can redial the actual person pretty easily.
